Welcome to students from Oaklands College

Welcome to students from Oaklands College

We've been lucky enough to have another group of students join us from Oaklands College for work experience. Spring is one of our busiest times so we'll certainly be able to keep them busy. There's been dubbing out of hundreds (literally) of tiny plug plants and potting huge numbers of new perennials. Our sales area will soon be teaming with plants to buy and we're looking forward to welcoming old and new customers in the coming weeks.

Princes Trust making a difference at Digswell

Princes Trust making a difference at Digswell

Several young people from The Princes Trust, which helps young people aged 13 to 30 get into jobs, education and training, have been making a real difference at Digswell. They've been involved in a number of projects, including refurnishing a space ready for a new coffee shop seating area and redecorating the Scrapstore. Hard work.. but good fun too. See our Facebook page for more.

Partnerships

Partnerships

Digswell is a lovely green space to enjoy the outdoors and engage with many people from the local community. We are community engagement project and embrace fair and productive partnership working. We believe that working alongside others can benefit all and help develop a firm basis for the future. If you would like to talk to us about working in partnership, please contact Sue Beard, Community Engagement Lead who will be happy to meet and have a chat about your ideas. Email Sue on: suzannebeard@sjog.org.uk

Princes Trust returns to Digswell

Princes Trust returns to Digswell

The Princes Trust returns to us again in February to help with some our projects. They were fantastic last time they were with us, helping to transform the terrace area and build a great new roof on our pagoda. They will be coming to us for two weeks from 6 February so check out our new Facebook page to see what they are getting on with.

Spring is approaching..

Spring is approaching..

As Christmas seems a distant memory, we have greeted the New Year with lots of energy. We have been busy pruning trees and shrubs and developing the nursery ready for spring. We have had two polytunnels recovered and watched the men fitting it work away in freezing temperatures to get it done ready for us to grow the spring bedding inside. The new look nursery is slowly taking shape with everyone pulling together, working hard and keeping warm!

With Christmas being just a few weeks away and as we begin that frantic time of shopping, cooking and putting our bank accounts under pressure.. please look no further than us for your Christmas tree and seasonal plants. We aim to offer good quality Christmas trees at a reasonable price. We genuinely love to spend hours helping you to choose the tree which is perfect for your home and really do understand the importance of this purchase and that it needs to be right, this tree does take centre stage in your home after all!

Digswell Welcomes the New Scrapstore

Digswell Welcomes the New Scrapstore

In August, the Connect Club Charity approached us in regards to helping them by providing space to operate their Wot-Ever Scrapstore from. The Connect Club Charity provides support, skills training education and leisure activities for people managing their mental health and living in the Welwyn / Hatfield area. The purpose of this project was to create opportunities for more volunteers and to provide additional training in warehouse skills.

New community engagement lead for the charity

New community engagement lead for the charity

My name is Sue Beard and some of you may remember me from my time previously at Digswell Nurseries. I was lucky enough to be the manager here between 2008 and 2013, but I began my journey at the nurseries in 1999 as a support worker. I fell in love with the project then and continued to be a huge supporter. In 2013 I left to work closer to home. In August this year I was successful in my application for the post of the charity's community engagement lead. This has given me the opportunity to return to Digswell as and be part of the team shaping this project for the future.
